In the US alone, roughly 1.4 million patients undergo operations requiring arterial prosthesesannually (1). Tissue engineering (TE) represents a potential means to construct functional small diametervascular grafts in situations where autologous tissue is unavailable and conventional synthetic materials fail. While initial results with many of the TE vascular grafts (TEVGs) construct...

Electrokinetic techniques continue to play a leading role in technologies ranging from nanoparticle characterization and directed electronics assembly to micropumps and micromixers to biosensors and DNA sequencing. In this session, we invite submissions related to the development of new technologies in any of these areas, from both the fundamental and applied perspectives. Suitable topics inclu...

Embryonic stem (ES) cell-derived endoderm is critical for the development of cellular therapies for diabetes, liver disease, and emphysema. Here, we describe a novel approach to induce endoderm using fibronectin-coated collagen gels. This technique resulted in a homogenous endoderm-like cell population, demonstrating endoderm-specific gene and protein expression as well as the differentiation p...

Statistical experimental design was used to optimize the conditions viz. Ethanol, Ammonium phosphate and Biotin concentration of L-Glutamic acid from Brevibacterium roseum NCIM 2238 by submerged fermentation. Maximum L-Glutamic acid concentration of 53.01621 g/l was obtained. The optimum conditions were found to be ethanol concentration of 5.3646 %v/v, ammonium phosphate of 0.7081 %w/v and biot...
